Inaugural Vancouver Photo Book Fair, April 21-23

The Fair is held at the Western Front in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, with offsite programming at the nearby James Black Gallery. Free and open to the public, Vancouver Photo Book Fair is Vancouver’s first art book fair dedicated to artists whose book-making practices incorporate or intersect with photography and lens-based art. Featuring an engaging program and a variety of local and international artists, collectives, and publishers, the Fair is anticipated to attract 1,000 visitors from across the Greater Vancouver area and beyond.  Full list of exhibitors and program schedule.

The Capture Photography Festival, in partnership with Vancouver Art Book Fair (VABF), launches the inaugural Vancouver Photo Book Fair this April 21–23. The Fair surveys one of photography’s earliest forms of dissemination—the photo book—demonstrating how this vital form continues to evolve, push the conventions of artists’ books, and carry photography into new contexts.

​Spring 2017 Workshops!

We have two great workshops for you this Spring … Two-Level Box with Hinged Lid and Star Books.

Box Making: Two-Level Box with Hinged Lid

Students will learn to how to construct a two-level box with a hinged lid that is roughly 8.5″ x 5.5″ x 4″. The bottom level has three open compartments. The top level is a removable half-tray. The box tops off with a hinged lid. Bookcloth and decorative papers will be utilized to produce this beautiful, functional box.

Whether you store trinkets, coins, art or sewing supplies, this box will store your items beautifully for decades.

No prior experience is necessary. Materials and tools will be provided. Please bring paper and pen for notetaking. Eight students max.

Making a Star Book

This amazing book will delight from any view. The Star book uses ties to hold it closed, but opens up completely to a spectacular star shape when folded back on itself.

Multiple layers and colours give this book unlimited opportunities for decoration.

In this six-hour workshop, students will make one star book. They will also come away with ideas for variations on this structure. Ten students max.
